Italian Television

As most of you know I can not watch American television via the internet (cbs.com, nbc.com, etc.) here in Italy. The reason is due to "copyright restrictions" which I think is because the Italian cable company has purchased the rights to air the shows here in Italy. That being said they are a couple years behind in the current shows. They also air a lot of old shows like Colombo, Quincy, Walker...Texas Ranger, Hunter, and Nash Bridges. Thanks to my wonderful parents I am well versed in these shows but due to recent reviewings I have noticed some things I didn't know before.

I don't think I would like to be friends with Walker. He and his friends get in more trouble than the Scooby Gang. Last night I was treated to the conclusion of the episosde where Walker's wife takes him whitewater rafting, they somehow are taken hostage and after a thrilling conclusion are rescued. I love the end where the wife jokingly says "next time we are going to Disney". Not as good as Lenny Brisco's one liners to open up Law and Order but still very good. Also, how long did the people have to study marshal arts to be on that show? The chick on their is unbelievable!
Hunter is the oppostie of Walker though. I swear Hunter fires his gun at least once an episode and the guy kills someone at least once every five shows. I swear he fires his weapon more in one show then the entire cast of all three CSI shows do in an entire season...well maybe not Miami...Heratio is a little trigger happy. There never seems to be an IAB investigation either. He shoots someone and then just reholsters his weapon. His captain doesn't yell at him or ask him for his gun and put him on desk duty until IAB is finished with their investigation. Nope he just goes on his merry way. Also, I would never want to be Hunters partner. I am pretty sure every month or so McCall's life is in mortal danger. I think she was his partner except for the last season after her boyfriend convinces her it is time to settle down and get married and I think she quits the force which makes sense after watching how many times she gets beat up or taken hostage. Then Hunter gets a blonde partner and in a matter of months she is killed by a serial killer. His partner for the rest of the final season is another blonde who I think he is dating but in one of the first episodes she is in she is stalked. Seriously, if you are asked to be in a cop show opposite Fred Dryer don't quit your day job.

As for Nash Bridges, does every episode start with him and Cheech driving in Nash's yellow car? Also, do they really have a police department on the bay that looks like an abandoned warehouse? I mean the door is open like a garage almost the entire time.
So that is basically what I've been doing lately! I'm glad they give people second chances on the show as Evan would probably not be allowed back on the force of any of the shows today if he was a drug addict and stole money during a bust (sure he returned it but still).

Just so you don't think I sit around and watch TV all the time I will let you know I did go to see a great exhibit with Eliana on Akhenaten who was the ruler of Egypt around 1350...BC! He was the king direclty before King Tutankhamun. It is thought in some circles that Akhenaten and his lesser wife Kiya are the parents of King Tutankhamun. The artifacts were amazing and the detail on some was still very clear. There were some artifacts with color that was so vivid it looked as if it was completed yesterday not over 3,000 years ago! Some of the pieces were jewlery and were so small I have no idea how they were ever found. It is interesting as Akhenaten is credited with trying to transform Egypt from a people who worshiped many gods to a culture who worshiped one god, the sun god Aten. Akhenaten's wife was Nefretit and there were some very beautiful carvings of her. It was amazing to see so much history! Now I want to go to Egypt too!
